The Walt Disney Company Germany owns the Disney Channel, a German free-to-air television channel. It is located in Munich and is available for children. It is aimed at all ages and features original television series, theatrically released original made-for-TV movies, and another third-party programming. Original programming is mostly supplied by its U.S. counterpart.
The original launch date of the channel was 16 October 1999. It was a Sky Deutschland subscription channel. It was eventually closed on 30 November 2013. It was renamed Das Vierte and became a free-TV channel in January 2014. It competes against other channels that are primarily aimed at children, such as Super RTL (50% owned by Disney Television through March 2021), KiKa, and Nickelodeon Germany.
