It has studios in Edmonton's Pleasantview neighborhood at Allard Way Northwest. The transmitter is just south of Highway 21. Global News Edmonton carries all of the Global network schedule and has programming similar to its sister station CICTDT in Calgary.

CITV currently broadcasts 45 hours of local newscasts per week (7 hours on a weekday, 5 hours on Saturdays and Sundays), making it the largest English-language TV station in Edmonton.

The news helicopter was first to be installed in Edmonton. The helicopter, named "Global 1", is shared by CHED radio station for traffic reports during Morning News and Early News. It is also frequently used for news coverage.

CITV was the first station in Alberta to broadcast locally produced programming in high-definition on November 15, 2010. Global News Edmonton increased its Saturday morning newscast from two hours to three hours on September 10, 2011. On September 11, 2011, the station launched a Sunday morning newscast that lasted two hours.

Global News Edmonton live increased its weekday morning newscast from four hours to four hours on August 27, 2012. The station also added a half hour to its newscast. On September 2, 2012, the station extended its Sunday morning newscast from three hours to three hours and added an additional hour. As part of Shaw Communications' sale of Global Television Network, the CITV morning news programming expansions were included in a benefits package.

CITV is the only station in the Global Television Network that produces all its local news programming from its own studios.
