Kabel Eins, a German free-to-air television channel, was established on February 29, 1992 under the name Der Kabelkanal. ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG owns it. It is well-known for its classic American films, as well as documentaries and TV series. It is considered a sister channel to ProSieben.
Kabel Eins live regularly takes over TV series from ProSieben that is not a success or have been broadcast many times before. Without a Trace is an example of this. Although it was considered a failure by ProSieben, it is now a very successful program on Kabel Eins. It also acquired shows from RTL II. ProSiebenSat.1 announced on May 4, 2016, that the station Kabel Eins Doku would launch as a spin-off from kabel eins. It was scheduled to be launched in the second half of 2016. Thorsten Putsch assumed control of the station. The station is a free-to-air channel that focuses exclusively on documentaries and other reports.
