La 2 en directo, a Spanish-language free-to-air TV channel, is owned and operated in Spain by Television Espanola - the television division of Radiotelevision Espanola - It is the second television channel of the corporation and broadcasts cultural and public service programming such as documentaries, music, theatre, independent, Ibero American and classic cinema.
It was launched as Spain's second regular television service on 15 November 1966, right after TVE's original channel on 28 October 1956. TVE was the sole broadcaster in Spain, and they were the only channels that broadcast in Spanish television until Euskal Telebista began broadcasting in Basque Country on 16 February 1983. Antena 3 began broadcasting nationally on 25 January 1990.
