MBC 1 is the first pan-Arab Saudi television channel created in 1991. It belongs to the MBC Group (Middle East Broadcasting Center). The channel is broadcast in clear on the Nilesat satellites in orbital position 7 ° West and Badr 5 and Badr 7 (Arabsat fleet) in orbital position 26 ° East. Its audience is estimated at more than 110 million viewers mainly in the Arab world but also in the West.
Initially, the first channel of the group, broadcast, for rights reasons, from London in the United Kingdom. Historically, MBC transmitted on the Eutelsat Hotbird 13°East satellite. In Morocco, in Casablanca, before the democratization and authorization of satellite antennas, MBC was broadcast in terrestrial analog from the Casablanca Ain Chok transmitter.
Since then, the offer has expanded. MBC is now a multi-thematic package consisting of 11 channels (MBC 1, MBC 2, MBC 3, MBC 4, MBC 5, MBC Drama, MBC Action, MBC Bollywood (variation for Indian viewers), MBC Masr 1 (Egyptian variation) and MBC Masr 2 (Egyptian variation). For a time, a Farsi-language version existed (MBC Persia). This one has disappeared.
Whereas MBC had chosen in 2013 to eliminate its European satellite broadcasting (on Eutelsat Hotbird 13 ° East) to prefer a more premium broadcasting in Europe on cable networks and OTT at the various Internet Service Providers (ISPs). In the wake, a Maghreb variation called MBC Maghreb Al Arabia is launched. A technical link (encoded in BISS) of this version is available on Eutelsat 21B satellite in orbital position 21.6°East. In November 2018, a mini-bouquet in full HD (1920x1080 resolution, h264 codec, MPEG-4 DVB-S2 standard) made its appearance on November 7, 2018 on the Eutelsat Hotbird 13° East satellite. It has two European versions, MBC 1 Europe and MBC 3 Europe alongside MBC Masr and MTV Lebanon (Lebanon). This mini-bouquet is encrypted in Irdeto2 just like the HD versions available on the Badr 26° East satellite.
It broadcasts its programs by satellite and OTT throughout the Arab world but also in Europe. She broadcasts shows like Al Andalib Man Yakoun, Who wants to earn millions?, Kalam Nawaem etc. In 2002, the headquarters of the MBC Group was moved from London in the United Kingdom to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
