skai tv logoSkai TV (in Greek: σκαΪ) is a Greek television channel, broadcasting a generalist programming. The station belongs to the Skai conglomerate, which also owns radios and publications. Although Skai was officially born on April 1, 2006, the Skai group already managed another TV channel in the early 1990s. In 1993, the Alafouzos family launched a television channel called Skai (now Alpha TV), which based its programming on sports and information. However, the bet was unsuccessful and Ioannis Alafouzos, president of the Skai group, sold the channel to Dimitris Kontominas in 2000.

Six years later, Alafouzos bought the television network Seven TV, which had a national broadcasting license but failed to expand its coverage. On April 1, Skai began its broadcasts with a more generalist programming, which included American series, documentaries, information and sports rights such as the Euroleague. Its audience is lower than that of other generalist channels such as Mega and ANT1, and unlike these, BBC and National Geographic documentaries can be found on Skai's prime time. Skai has been one of the first channels in the world to bet on technological innovation, and a good part of its programs are broadcast in 16:9.
